The project
The 49.9MW solar farm is:
Fully consented and Ready to Build renewable energy project that will generate enough electricity to power around 14,000 average UK homes
Provide electricity storage to help the National Grid balance supply and demand of electricity locally and Nationally
Potential to deliver electric vehicle charging points, allowing local people to recharge their electric cars in as little as 20 minutes
Potential to generate green hydrogen for haulage transport in South Yorkshire
The solar farm
The project will consist of photovoltaic modules installed on a simple metal framework mounted on short piles.
Each panel of solar modules would have an overall height of up to 2.8m depending on existing ground levels.
Several inverter/transformers will be located across the site which ready the electrical current for transmission to the grid.
Fencing and a CCTV system will be installed around the site’s perimeter while access tracks will be constructed within the site.

Benefits
Boost national energy security for Britain, reducing our nation’s reliance on imported gas and electricity
Contribute towards a net-zero UK economy and tackle climate change
Protect the Green Belt from permanent development, as this solar farm is a temporary project
Deliver a Community Benefit Fund of £250,000 over 40 years, index linked
Increased biodiversity enhancing local wildlife
Ability to improve soil conditions to benefiting from future farming
Maximise the use of local suppliers to build-out the solar farm
Analysis by the Solar Trade Association suggests that a solar farm of this size would provide circa. 15 full time jobs equivalent through the supply chain
Locally there will be job opportunities during construction. In addition, contractors from outside the area will use local facilities such as shops, hotels, cafes etc. Local contractors may also be used for maintenance of the solar farm site once operational
