Why this site?

  • Climate ER selected this site as it is conveniently located with an on-site, underground connection point to the electricity network.

A solar farm must be able to connect to the grid to transport the electricity produced by the solar panels to local homes, offices, and industry.

The neighbouring area also has a requirement for stable and predictable power and the project will help satisfy this demand.

Moreover, the project sits next to a potential hydrogen hub, offering an opportunity to generate clean hydrogen for haulage transport across South Yorkshire.

  • As the site is located less than half a mile from the M18, construction traffic will travel up the motorway and access the site via the A631 and Denby Way and Hellaby Lane.

  • The solar farm will deliver significant improvements to the biodiversity of the site.

It is proposed that, as part of the construction of the project, an area will be given over to species rich grassland with wildflower margins, effectively rewilding land previously used intensively for farming.

This is expected to create new spaces for native flora and fauna to thrive. The enhancement of existing vegetation and hedgerows will include native planting, while the solar farm is also exploring further measures to allow local wildlife to prosper, including new bird and bat boxes and reptile hibernacula.
